vehicles equipped with Renault E-Tech plug-in hybrid technology

Renault plug-in hybrid expertise
fundamentals of E-Tech plug-in hybrid technology
Plug-in hybrid vehicles use a technology derived directly from our full hybrid models. Equipped with higher-capacity batteries, the main difference is the ability to charge your vehicle when stationary via an external outlet. Which is why it is called a plug-in.

3 facts about E-Tech plug-in hybrid

E-Tech plug-in hybrid - powertrain - Renault
POWERTRAIN
Built with 2 electric motors and 1 combustion-powered engine that operate together. Power sources alternate based on the type of road, driving style, battery charge level, and more. The power distributor system automates switchovers between the engine and motors.
E-Tech plug-in hybrid - fuel consumption - Renault
FUEL CONSUMPTION REDUCED BY UP TO 75%
Plug-in hybrid vehicles are designed to reduce your fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 75% (on WLTP cycle) compared to a combustion-powered vehicle.
E-Tech plug-in hybrid - electric on demand - Renault
ELECTRIC ON DEMAND
Plug-in hybrid cars get charged daily at work or at home, on public or private charging points. With their large capacity rechargeable battery, you can plan where and when to charge on your way, and put off your visit to the petrol station.

everyday life with E-Tech plug-in hybrid

Charge your battery wherever you want.
Enjoy the unrivalled comfort of starting up and driving at low speed in full-electric. Make the most of the city, all while saving on fuel. And for your other journeys, the electric motors alternate with the combustion-power engine to optimise your driving range.

questions about E-Tech plug-in hybrid technology

HOW DO YOU CHARGE A HYBRID CAR?
If you have a full hybrid car, it charges as you drive using kinetic energy as well as the combustion engine. The battery recharges on its own as you brake and decelerate. However, you can actively influence the regenerative energy recovery level to increase or decrease it.

If you have a plug-in hybrid car, you can also charge it by plugging it into the electrical grid, via a public charging point, or by charging it at home. 3.7 kW is the maximum power for our vehicle chargers.
WHAT IS THE DRIVING RANGE FOR PLUG-IN HYBRID CARS?
A plug-in hybrid vehicle’s driving range depends on the vehicle’s features and also how it is used.

The electric driving range mainly depends on the traction battery capacity (expressed in kWh). The greater the capacity, the longer you will be able to drive fully electric. In the case of our plug-in hybrid technology, where the battery is charged by plugging into the mains but also by driving by recovering kinetic energy, the fully electric driving range is guaranteed up to 50 km (in WLTP combined use), for an actual driving range that may vary from approximately 30 to 60 km. Obviously, to make the most of your vehicle and fuel savings, you need to charge it as often as possible.

The total driving range of a plug-in hybrid car is greater than that of a petrol car, since you can alternate between several energy sources. In town, when the electric motor(s) take(s) over, the internal combustion engine is not used much or at all, which of course saves fuel. On the motorway, even when the traction battery is flat, you benefit from hybrid powertrain operation that optimises your consumption.
